Our Goals

Fostering and promoting Irish culture – music, sports, dance.
To foster a positive attitude towards the Irish language in students and for them to all be loyal to the Irish language and proud of it.
Living a full life as a child should.
To foster their interest in the Irish language world and to expose them to such things as – Gaeltacht schools, Radio na Gaeltachta, Teilifís na Gaeilge, Irish language programmes and Irish language books.
To develop communication skills, e.g. speaking, writing, listening and reading in Irish and English, in students.
To provide students with knowledge and understanding of the concepts and workings of Mathematics.
To foster a study through observation based on the local environment and with a specific focus on caring for our area, developing a sense of responsibility and acquiring a spirit of good citizenship.
To foster the skills of handwriting, handicrafts, music and other creative arts and to encourage a good understanding of these.
Encourage enjoyment of physical activities, dance, music, movement, mime, and other relaxation game skills.

Procedures & General Information

Irish is the spoken language of the school. The approach is that the child will acquire this second language in the same way as he/she did with the first language – from understanding it, listening to it, recognising syntactic units in it and ultimately generating words, phrases and sentences of his/her own.

There are advantages to engaging with a second language at this level. The activities and the language that go with them are based on real toys and equipment; the meanings of the words are self-evident or can be linked to actions and events that occur over and over again. The new language is associated with a particular person, place and activity.

The Teacher will strive to develop the children’s speaking ability and expand their vocabulary by introducing them to stories and poems, drama and conversation with them

Our Times

School starts at 9.00 a.m. It is important that children develop the habit of being at school on time. No member of the school staff is responsible for children who are in the yard before the official assembly time. For safety reasons, it is expected that students will walk at all times while in the school yard. Running is strictly prohibited in the school yard.
Children are not allowed to enter school before 8.45am.
The school day for Junior and Senior Infant classes ends at 1.40 p.m. Infants are not allowed to go home alone unless specifically requested in writing by parents. Anyone who comes to school to pick up your child should be in the schoolyard before 1.30 p.m. to avoid unnecessary disturbance to the child. The school day for students in other classes ends at 2.40 p.m.

Parents Committee

To foster a stronger connection between school and home.
To support the Board of Management, raise money to purchase equipment.
To foster better connection between the parents themselves.

The Parents Committee was established in 1995 to:

Provide a stronger link between the school and home.
To help the Board of Management in fund-raising for the school.
To provide a meeting point for parents whose children attend the school.

A new Committee is elected in October each year.

The Board of Management

Gaelscoil na Cruaiche is a Catholic primary school and is a school under the Patronage of the Foundation. The Patron appoints a Board of Management for each individual school. The Boards are made up of representatives of the patron, parents and teachers and are appointed every four years. The Board must at all times operate under the Rules for National Schools and the directions issued by the Department of Education and the Foundation.
